Perhaps Thor got hit in the head with his own hammer. Chris Hemsworth, speaking to Variety in the lead-up to the reveal of his Hollywood Walk of Fame this past week, the Marvel hero and “Furiosa” villain acknowledged the imposter syndrome he feels receiving this honor — especially because he thought he’d already received it in the past.
“I’ll tell you a funny story,” said Hemsworth. “At least I hope it’s funny — it might make me look like an idiot. But I’ll take the risk.”
Hemsworth recalled when he and the cast of “Avengers: Endgame” were asked to cast their handprints in cement outside TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. He said of the event, “I thought that was the Walk of Fame! So when we did it, I thought, ‘Oh cool, I’m getting a star.’ And someone told me, ‘No, that’s not what this is.’”
Didn’t register.
Not realizing the error at the time, he said, “I went along with it like I completely knew what was happening. It was kind of afterwards, I was like, ‘So, where’s the star?”
Hemsworth no longer has to ask the question — he (actually) received said star this past week.
Honoring Thor to his Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. said of Hemsworth: “Beyond the cape and the hammer is a contagious Aussie charm. You are a remarkable human being. You are a legend. Chris is a bit daunting to describe. He’s very elusive because of the pretty packaging. However, upon further inspection…down under…he has a true wit and depth of soul and it has been my sincere pleasure to know you. You keep us Hollywood folk on our toes because you’re just a real deal.”
The sense of being the “real deal” still seems elusive to Hemsworth. He says he struggles to believe all the success and recognition he’s received, even though it’s been something he’s dreamed about for a long time.
Now with an actual, definite, confirmed, really-there star, Hemsworth said: “Like most people, I’d drive past and think, ‘Maybe one day!’ But it was an incredibly far off, somewhat wild dream. It still feels a little dreamy, to be honest.”
