Sarah Paulson has already successfully fan-casted herself on “The Bear” and now, the Emmy-winning actress has her sights set on “Legally Blonde.”
Paulson said during BuzzFeed’s viral “The Puppy Interview” in the below video that she would want to play the role of Professor Stromwell, as originated by her real-life partner Holland Taylor in the 2001 film. Paulson and Taylor have been together since 2015.
When asked which role of Taylor’s she would choose to play, Paulson said, “I probably would like to be in ‘Legally Blonde,’ I’d like to play that teacher. Iconic.”
Paulson recently led horror film “Hold Your Breath,” and the actress is waiting to flex her non-thriller chops onscreen.
“I want someone to put me in a fucking comedy. Nobody puts me in a comedy,” she said. “All you want me to do is scream and run from a clown. You don’t understand that I’m like a gentle, nice, charming, funny person.”
And Paulson has more than a few ideas about possible comedy co-stars.
“I’m going to say Cate Blanchett… I’d like to work with her in the horror genre, actually. Also I would like to do a buddy picture with her, a road comedy, and she’s really funny so I’d like to do that,” Paulson said. “I’d also like to work with Sandy [Sandra] Bullock again. I’d like to do something like serious with her, maybe.”
Plus, Paulson could produce those films: She recently made her executive producer film debut with “Hold Your Breath,” and told IndieWire that she “had an extraordinary time” making the feature.
As for the state of the “Legally Blonde” franchise, Paulson has her pick of projects. A third film has long been in the works, with Mindy Kaling and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor writing the script and lead star Reese Witherspoon returning as Elle Woods. Witherspoon is also producing a prequel series, titled “Elle,” for Prime Video, with the show being centered on Elle Woods in high school leading up to the events in the first movie.
A spinoff TV series is also set at Prime Video; Witherspoon is believed to be reprising her role as Elle Woods for “Gossip Girl” reboot creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.
