The 9900-member Academy of Movement Image Arts and Sciences condemned Smith’s actions on Monday and stated it was reviewing the matter.
If the group determines Smith violated its requirements of conduct, members may expel the actor from the organisation, revoke his Oscar, or make him ineligible for future awards.
Rock has not publicly commented in regards to the incident.
